Description: The festival of lights, Deewali, has all the charm, grandeur and splendor that illuminates our hearts and minds while also promoting the much needed peace, harmony and brotherhood in our society. In a way it is the celebration, the awareness and awareness of inner light which has the power to outshine darkness and clear all the obstacles in life. To light up the darkness and to bring happiness and comfort into the lives under privileged people, this Diwali Lucknow Public School Kalindi Park branch, took up philanthropic initiative under the banner titled “Joy of Giving”. Talking about this initiative, Mrs. Manisha N Pathak, Principal, Lucknow Public School Kalindi Park said, “This initiative is a two pronged approach. On one hand we have been able to bring happiness and joy to the under privileged families by delivering the joy boxes which have been prepared out of love and compassion. While on the other hand, by getting the students involved we have been able to teach them that it’s our responsibility to help those who cannot help themselves. So we are helping the needy and teaching our children strong moral values at the same time. It’s a win- win!!! .” The joy boxes full of clothes, dry fruits, namkeens, biscuits, candles, roasted chana, jaggery and Ayurvedic Medicinal items like pudinhara, kadha sachet, whole spices likes cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, turmeric etc and several other items of daily use brought smile on the faces of the less privileged ones. We chose to conduct this event on Diwali to get children involved in doing something good and productive and help them understand the true meaning of Diwali. We also arranged for awareness programs to cater the vector borne diseases by using Ayurvedic Species and herbs which are commonly found in our households. The slum dwellers were also made aware of public hygiene, spread of communicable diseases and ways to prevent it. In the end, we are extremely thankful to parents, students and teaching staff who have donated generously and have made this initiative a successful event.
